Member Spotlight: Bernadette Hernandez (Los Angeles Chapter)
April 15, 2016
“Multifaceted, full of passion, driven, boisterous, authentic, no sugar-coating kind of gal,” is how she describes herself.
Although born in Guam, Bernadette Hernandez considers herself a So Cal local, growing up in Ventura County, California since the age of one. She attributes her drive, determination, and work ethic to her parents, who were first generation Pilipino immigrants. There is no doubt in her mind that she would not have been able to be where she is at now without the sacrifices, love, and support from her parents.
Bernadette Hernandez has always had a passion for helping others. Her career in the medical field began in 1997 when she was the youngest to graduate from her Physical Therapy class. Since then, she has accomplished a myriad of titles: Certified Pilates Instructor, Certified Strength and Conditioning Instructor, and ASTYM Specialist. She is currently the Physical Therapy Manager of the biggest orthopedic group in Ventura County. Her passion for health and fitness extend into her other businesses as well. She is the CEO of “LIVE healthy, fit and strong” which focuses on health and wellness coaching and nutrition. She is also a home health independent contractor for physical therapy, ensuring the safety, well-being, and functional mobility of people in the comfort of their own residences.
Bernadette currently resides in sunny Southern California with her husband, Ryan, who is an artist by passion, and their daughter who loves to draw, sing, and dance. They are an active family that enjoys the beach, globetrotting, hiking, river rafting, and snowboarding. You can find Bernadette and her hubby at any of the foodie spots since they both have an affinity for wine and good eats.
Bernadette and her husband are true believers in giving back to the community and are involved in many charities. The top five they support yearly are:
1. Operation Smile (their daughter was born with a cleft lip) 2. Rescue Mission of Oxnard (the couple and their daughter volunteer to help feed the homeless) 3. Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (Bernadette started running half marathons to support a childhood friend diagnosed with Leukemia) 4. Support the Troops (Bernadette’s father is a veteran and served more than two decades in the United States Navy) 5. Making Strides Against Breast Cancer (Ryan and Bernadette have family members who have been affected by breast cancer) She admits that juggling a career, businesses, and family can be challenging. What does she say is her secret? She truly believes in “filling her cup,” meaning she takes the time to take care of herself so that she can be the best version of herself to take care of others. AND she tries to envision her mindset daily:“Wake up each day with mental clarity, positive thinking, inspiration, and a sense of purpose. Approach each person with a smile, positive attitude – leaving them with some positive impact. Be grateful for everything that comes in my path, and know that I am able to create my own infinite possibilities. Remember that I am powerful and responsible for my own actions and not the actions and reactions of others. I will have a mindset that will attract positive people who also want to go forth and change the world – transform lives. My mindset will help me create an abundance of blessings for myself and those around me.”When asked about how she feels about her Lipstick Sisters, her response was:“There are no words to describe how amazing these women are. They are movers, shakers, inspiration, love, and light. What resonates with me is how authentic and giving all the sisters I have met are. They are the epitome of what every parent would want in a daughter, what every husband would want in a wife, what every child would want in a mother, and what every sibling would want in a sister. I am so blessed to be a part of this sisterhood.”
