I had the pleasure of meeting Irene Martino, Co-Founder and the face behind StyleCon when I first moved to Orange County and I was immediately WOWED!
This fantastic woman embodies everything we think about when we think of Wonder Woman, a dedicated wife to her long time, charming Italian husband, a loving and hands-on mother to her stunning 16 year old and a hardworking entrepreneur. She is intelligent, passionate, funny and lovely. Well known within her community for her charitable work and her fabulous sense of fashion. We are thrilled to share her StyleCon story:
"StyleCon brings together a community of fashion and beauty lovers,
digital influencers, and style and tastemakers with brands to engage, discuss, follow and influence.Top stylists and makeup artists will showcase their talents with complimentary pamper stations including hair, makeup, lashes, and nails. The Beauty of Empowerment is this year’s theme on the StyleStage with keynote speakers, blogger panels, and style and fashion presentations. StyleCon allows you to network with like-minded individuals while listening to inspirational entrepreneurs in the style business".
[LS] How did it all start? What made you decide to pursue this path?
My partner Robyn Grant and I wanted to go into business together and we decided to focus on social media and the future of what it will be. We wanted to bring the digital screen to life. With StyleCon, we bring together social media celebrities, brands and the beauty and fashion lovers. The landscape of fashion is changing with the advent of social media and we really wanted to focus in on the millennial. We noticed how the Con’s were attracting so many people that we wanted to see where we could take StyleCon. We always have a theme that joins all of our network platform together and this year it is “The Beauty Of Empwerment”. This theme is so relevant now as more than ever, women need to stick together and embrace their individuality, beauty and power. StyleCon Is Nov 4 at The Hangar at the OC Fair & Event Center.
[LS] What steps did you have to take to conquer your goal of being a business owner?
Being a business owner takes risks and I have owned a number of businesses in the past from technology to trade shows to finance. I was very aware of what it takes to start and run your own business. Many people said we couldn’t do it, but we didn’t listen to anyone and we figured out how to each year, make StyleCon better, more refined and keeping to the Brand image and voice.
[LS] How do you manage envy, ego or jealousy from getting in the way of your dreams?
I don’t let any of that bother me. I stay focused on my path. People can say what ever they want but for the most part, I have an incredible support system and my friends and family are always there to believe in me.
[LS] What are some of the qualities you believe a person must have to build their own business/brand?
They must first of all be a hard worker and believe in yourself to pursue your dreams. Determination, grit and just get it done are our mottos.
[LS] What do you love most about your profession?
I love the fashion and beauty business, so it doesn’t seem like work. If you love what you do then it’s not work.
[LS] If you were to pinpoint a few tools for success, what would they be?
Be ready to learn anything and do all. I was never a very creative type, but I know what I like and what aesthetic looks good, so I aim to become creative and put what I envision down on paper. I taught myself how to do social media, how to do design graphics and how to be a better business leader.
[LS] What advice would you give a young girl about getting out in the
I would say don’t let anyone tell you “no” and that if you love it then do it. We come across a lot of young women in our business and all these young girls want to get in the social media/influencer business. I am constantly inspired by these young women as they pursue their passion.
[LS] Finding a mentor is key. Do you have a female mentor or idol growing up who has significantly impacted your life? How?
I would probably say my mother, as she worked every day of her life. She taught me work ethic and that you truly can become anyone if you put your mind to it.
[LS] What / who inspires YOU to get through each day & overcome every challenge?
My partner, Robyn Grant makes me work harder, smarter and more efficient every day. I learn a lot from her smarts and she teaches me everyday to be a better human.
[LS] What is your definition of BEAUTIFUL?
Beautiful is how you feel, not only look. Beautiful is confidence, intelligence and capable.
[LS} What is your favorite shade of Lipstick?
I love a nude shade of lipstick.
[LS] Why do you think women organizations like Lipstick Sister are important?
Lipstick Sister is important because sometimes you can’t do it on your own. When you feel alone, it’s important to have a cheerleading squad behind you. My best friends have come from charity committees, that we all work towards a common goal. We all need our sisters to have our backs, keep us focused and move forward.
