Rarely do we get to do a Dynamic Duo feature on real life sisters, so we are very excited to share Tifany & Olivia's story with you! Born in and raised in Ohio, these two beauties embody everything you think two sisters should be like. They work together and are best friends so they love spending the majority of their time together. They are kind, generous, smart and have an old-school timeless beauty that is as beautiful as their souls. With a little nudge from their Dad, Mohsen who has bought and sold homes for over 30 years they decided to become realtors. Now, running a successful business before they even turned 30, with a consistent ranking in the top 20 Realtors in the USA, these sisters share with us what it takes to be successful and how to keep balance in their daily life.
What made you decide to pursue this particular business?
We got into our real estate business, Tifany & Olivia from a nudge from our Dad, Mohsen. He told us with our people skills, patience and tenacity we would make great Realtors. Within one year we were ranked #13 in the USA for our company, and since then have been ranked consistently in the top 20 Realtors in the USA! I think the reason we're so successful is we really listen to what our client's want and work doggedly to find it. We're very, very patient and love helping people.
When it comes down to a female partner, what were some important factors you looked at?
We are blood sisters so it was natural for us to pair together. We’ve been best friends since we were young, always having some of the same friends and we have a very similar personality. In other words, we always got along really well!
We knew we could trust each other with our lives and business. We know we’ll always be there for each other, and that we both have different strengths which rounds out our powerful business model.
Women are “known” to be competitive and jealous of other women, how do you balance your friendship/partnership to avoid these feelings?
We are both working toward a common goal so it’s easy for us to have a smooth partnership. We set goals for our business every year and this helps us to keep on track and motivate one another to work harder so we both can benefit. We work in an industry that’s very cut throat and other ladies can be jealous to see us young and successful and try to talk down to us or make us feel like we aren’t successful enough. We’ve learned to deal with this by two pieces of advice from my Dad: 1) Never talk bad about anyone else. It’s a small world, and it will come back to you one day. 2) Outwork your competition and be proud of your success. If you’re busy working, you don’t have time to be jealous or envious.
What inspires you to help you get through the day?
We both have our yearly goals, personal goals, inspirational quotes, and vision boards in a place where we can see it every morning and through out the day to help us remember why the hell we are doing this in the first place! We love to read inspirational books, listen to podcasts and get together with friends to ask for advice if we ever need it.
What do you love the most about your profession?
Tifany: The people! We have helped so many Southern California business owners and gotten to know what they do for work. Whether they own restaurants, or small boutiques, we always love to support their business's as well. We love to support these family owned companies and hopefully creating a new client base for them. We're huge givers and we love to use our platform to support other local businesses in any way we can.
Olivia: I love that we can take someone who has no idea what they want, find out their needs, and get them into a home they feel so good coming home to every day. Most of our clients don’t know the area well and we have researched the best places to live in close proximity to top rated schools, shopping, dining and work. It's great to hear from our client's after 6 months of them living in their new home and they tell us, "We LOVE the location of this home. We are SO happy you helped us pick this neighborhood!"
What advice would you give a young girl about getting out in the “real” world?
There’s a few simple things you can do to kick ass at your jobs: say yes to new opportunities, show up at the office, be helpful, don’t talk crap about people, work harder than what you get paid for and have written goals and a vision board. Your company might have goals for you but you should have your own personal goals as well so you know where you want to go. Believe success is possible and help other people get where they’re trying to go. Be nice to everyone.
Why do you think organizations like Lipstick Sister are important?
I think these organizations bring together professional women in an environment that’s friendly and help you to find like-minded women who you might otherwise be intimidated to meet. It's nice to be in a group where you can ask for advice and there are a lot of women who would love to help you.
When you are not busy working, what do you do for fun?
Tifany: We live in paradise, so I'm usually taking advantage of that with a beach run, or walking around town to check out the cute boutiques. I try to really rest on my time off and give my mind and body a break. When my boyfriend and I get a good couple days or a week off, we travel! In the past two years we've been to France, Italy, Germany, Sweden, Japan, China, Mexico, Greneda, and are planning on Australia next!
Olivia: I love to hike, go to the beach, surfing, find new business's in the area like caffe's, read new books, hang out with friends, hang out with my boyfriend and spontaneous travel.
Tell us about your personal style?
Very minimal and classy. We both don't wear a lot of color or patterns. We like anything simple yet sophisticated. We're not really into keeping up with the latest trends because we know they are short lived.
Who are your favorite designers and why?
Tifany: Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen for their line, The Row; very simple and understated luxury fashion. Christobal Balenciaga has always fascinated me. From his capes to bubble skirts, to beautiful baby doll dresses, he was able to manipulate the silhouette of a woman with such perfection that his creations just leave you in awe. For more affordable and modern every day fashion, we stick to the simplicity of All Saints, Elizabeth & James, Equipment and we just happily discovered mo:vint (their jumpsuits are my go-to's for easy business wear).
Who is your female idol?
Olivia: Women like Audrey Hepburn and Princess Diana who were creatives, artists, and humanitarians. They did what they felt was right in their heart despite their family and friends telling them they should act another way.
Tifany: Going along with what Olivia said, Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen are just the ultimate Boss Babes in my opinion. They inspire me to do what I want and not care about the opinions of others. They grew up in the spotlight with everyone chiming in on their ventures, and they had to learn to listen to themselves and tune out the chatter. They explored so many different avenues and didn't put themselves in this box that society tried to shove them in. Because of that mindset, they have created an empire worth over $400 Million.
